The Clinton County Historical Society will host a Civil War Living History event on May 6 & 7, 2017 to kick off the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
The Turner Brigade, a reenactment organization that portrays infantry, artillery, and engineering units of Missouri Union volunteers and civilians of the Civil War period will be on hand with displays, exhibits, and demonstrations of the soldier’s life during the War Between the States.
In addition, other local Civil War history buffs will be present to show off equipment, artifacts, and share their Civil War knowledge with visitors. Numerous other activities, including historical figure impersonators, are in the planning stage and additional information will be made available in upcoming weeks. The location of the event will be the grassy area adjacent to the Mariners Village Resort, near the Dam West Recreational Area, and adequate parking will be available.

A special and new way to educate and excite the public about fire prevention, the Smokey Bear Balloons have enlivened and enlightened tens of thousands of older and younger generations in America, renewing interest in wildfire prevention practices. Equipped with a special trailer offering a full range of environmental, educational, and media opportunities to each sponsor, the Smokey Bear Balloons continue to thrill countless Americans with a new and exciting knowledge about wildfire prevention.
Dan Belcher of Ampersand Workshop will be creating a new Sand Sculpture during the 3-day 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Pay tribute to the Vietnam Veterans! The Moving Wall” is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for thirty plus years. When John Devitt attended the 1982 dedication in Washington, he felt the positive power of “The Wall.” He vowed to share that experience with those who did not have the opportunity to go to Washington.

Be a part of this 5k Run Walk across the Carlyle Lake Dam to commemorate the 50th Anniversary. Each participant will receive a commemorative drawstring bag, t-shirt and finishers medal. Awards will be given following the race.
